Is Let England Shake an anti-war album?

Post by blue412 »

Hi,

I am new to The Garden and delighted to have found it! Great name for a forum btw  !

Been a PJ fan for a number of years, don't have all the albums, but love everything I do have. Particularly interested in discussing Let England Shake.

Is it a war album, or is it more about national identity and the mixed feelings people have about their own countries? Is it anti-war? Does it have an opinion? Is it almost journalistic in its observations in order to preserve its integrity?

Would love to hear what others think.

Cheers!

Hi blue412, welcome to The Garden :) It is a very friendly place.

I think Let England Shake is all of the things you mention and more. Journalistic? Maybe more observer.. Polly did do many interviews for Let England Shake. Maybe if you do a web search generally and also on YouTube (PJ Harvey interviews Let England Shake) you might find some answers. Good Luck, and those albums you haven't got, check them out, beautiful music...
