Classic review on amazon...

Post by sau »

'The 5 stars reviews are the fans that no matter what she releases, she is always right, if one day she decides to make music with a broken maraca and a guitar with one string, they would say it's artistic and poetic.'

That sounds like me! If Polly read the whole of the phone directory for the South Dorset area, banging maracas against her forehead and swinging a mic at a 5 year old kid - go on, you can picture it - I'd be the one looking round at the opened mouthed ones saying..."I'll tell you what, this is quite good, isn't it?"

I'd rather see someone declare Polly dull - as they did on the Camp Bestival Forum - and someone say, "That was amazing" as they left the big top after Polly's gig finished, which I heard. Imagine if everyone just said, "That was all rather agreeable." Give me the extremes.

Whole review here:

'I should have not bought this album. She is always trying very hard not to repeat her last works.

You have to remember that she said she does music for her and does not care what the other people think, including her loyal fans.
BEST of PJ Harvey 1991 - 2004.'
Wiggins is so superbly unassuming, he looks like he's about to say 'Pop the gold medal in the post, I'm nipping out for some biscuits'

You know, I think she could actually put that off if she wanted to. I'm sure she'd find a way to make it interesting. Not saying it'd be my favorite thing, but, uh, I can appreciate the effort.

Which album was this a review for?

Hmmm, I don't remember ever hearing/reading her say she doesn't care what her loyal fans think. I think she loves that loyal fans will stick with her in whatever endeavor.
if there's a want for something new, you might find me at the start, or where it ends for you.

I'm thinking that Polly banging maracas against her forehead and swinging a mic at a 5 year old kid would work. Shit...she could have saved barking like a dog for that number
how will you ever walk again...

Maybe she'll be inspired by her childhood lamb testicle ringing that she'll start baa-ing on the next record.

I think that "don't care what her loyal fans think" comment is suspect also.

I just watched a Stories interview the other day in which she said that she "didn't care what other people think, in particular critics". I don't ever remember her singling out her fans in a comment like that.

 You know, I can picture it, and that's why I love her.

Her voice is so great the phone directory reading is bound to be beautiful.
I cannot explain this, dear, I will not even try ...
