Board Upgrade
Greetings!
And welcome to the upgraded Garden. I had been thinking I should really do this for a very long time, and then sometime yesterday, it crashed. I tinkered with it for some time but was unable to revive it. So instead, I've done a full upgrade and on a first look around, it appears that the database has been updated and all member accounts and (is it possible?) maybe all posts have made the transition. This is the most I could have expected, and I did think that it might not work. What did not make the transition is the header for one thing, so yes, this is still the PJ Harvey forum, and I will be replacing image files as I figure out the new software. But for now, I've been at this for a couple of hours and I'm taking a break. I would ask that any member reading this to post, say hello, and let me know that you are able to post, and anything else you may have noticed.
Cheers!

Thank you OM! Ok, so far everything seems functional but I'm still checking on things. It would be nice if things looked a bit more like the old board, but I'm not sure what to do about that yet.
Re: Board Upgrade
I thought i'd come to the wrong place! glad this site is still going.
Thanks H&HW for keeping it going!

Re: Board Upgrade
You're welcome! I'm just looking at "styles" as they call them, that will make the board look more like it used to. I would at least like to get the old logo up. Still, I'm very pleased that the database survived and everyone still has their logo etc. and etc. I thought it might be over!Romario11 wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2026 5:38 pm I thought i'd come to the wrong place! glad this site is still going.

Re: Board Upgrade
Ok! I found and installed the logo, for this style anyway. I think we had a couple of different styles, these are independently created and then the admin has to install them. I don't remember all the ones we had, this default style is not the one I used. I'm looking at other styles, and I'd like to install one or maybe two, just so we have options.
The first thing I did was title the site "The Garden, a PJ Harvey Discussion Site" just so you would know where you were. Does anyone remember, was there anything there before? I don't remember there being anything at all, but I'd like to update this somehow.

Hello Hell and High Water, thank you for the fundamental maintenance work you do and for keeping this forum alive and well. I can confirm there wasn't anything on the right side of the main title " the Garden a PJ Harvey Community". I do like the new look, it feels and looks retro enough (which is a good thing!) and very polished!Hell and High Water wrote: Fri Jun 05, 2026 12:46 am Ok! ^ Thank you! I think you are right. Although I needed to have it there before I figured out how to install the logo, the logo says what the site is about. The text was redundant now and I've deleted it.

Re: Board Upgrade
For some time I've wanted to fix the problem with embedding youtube videos, but I didn't want to get into it without updating the board software. So, after updating the website and trying to install an extension to play youtube videos, it took some more fiddling, but I found the button to push to fix this. Stumbled across it actually, online resources didn't seem to help, but maybe they did. To demonstrate, here's a classic-

Embedding other websites can work as well, Facebook is supported as installed.

Re: Board Upgrade
I have good news and bad news for you ...
Good news: the videos work for me
Bad news: the logo/header doesn't. On my Windows/Chrome PC I am still seeing the phpBB logo and no Polly at all. On my iPad I just get the top half of Polly's head and the top half of a letter T.

Re: Board Upgrade
Everything seems to work fine for me on Safari on MacBook (macOS 26), but on the iPhone (iOS 26) the header/logo with Polly's head is indeed not visible, but that's a very minor issue. It seems that embedding tweets and Instagram posts works well:
