Why are the lyrics in the booklet different than the actual songs? Like in let england shake some of the lyrics are left out in the actual song. Weird.
Re: Polly's New Album: What We Know So Far
I believe she's done this a fair amount before: the "official" lyrics different than the lyrics as sung on the album. She's also sung them differently live, but that's a different matter.kaslopus wrote:Why are the lyrics in the booklet different than the actual songs? I think that this are the poems as she finished, before she attempt of the music.kaslopus wrote:Why are the lyrics in the booklet different than the actual songs? Like in let england shake some of the lyrics are left out in the actual song. Weird.
I guess that to make the words go with the melodies she had to change/cut some words

So I went to a few stores, and they had LES, BUT only the non-limited edition jewel case.
So, I had to get back home to order it online.
Small consolation: it was 4 euros cheaper online

Just got a call from my local CD shop...CD is in! I love indie stores. They sell stuff way before street date. Going to get it after work!
Not sure of which edition, but I'm still going for it.

Re: Polly's New Album: What We Know So Far
Just listened to my digipack all the way through for the first time. I tried not to listen too much to the streams this time. Dunno if that affected things, but here's my favorites:
1. The Glorious Land, yes even with the bugle.
2. England.
3. All and Everyone
4. On Battleship Hill
5. Bitter Branchs
6. In The Dark Places
7. Written on the Forehead
I'm sure the live versions will be incredible for all the tracks, but the studio versions of these stood out. I can't get over the change in her voice. It's high like White Chalk, but this time with laser-like precision. She's not straining at all now to hit those high notes. Just listen to Battleship Hill. Jeez, did she go through a year of intensive vocal coaching or was there surgery involved or?
Her voice is just gorgeous.
Yep, the melodies are all upbeat, even pretty sounding. I'm sure she meant that to contrast with the lyrics, which are anything but.
I don't think anyone has mentioned the end notes yet. They're pretty descriptive about where things came from. This is new to me: The Glorious Land is based on the old Police song "The Bed's Too Big Without You":

Oh yeah, The Big Guns Called Me Back Again should've been on the album.

The booklet photographs for my digipack are by "Cat Stevens". I agree the Seamus Murphy pics are great, but if it's really the Cat Stevens who we think it is (?), she may have definitely intended that.12fingered wrote:apart from the front and back, i do not like the album artwork at all. why were none of the wonderful seamus murphy pics used?

if there's a want for something new, you might find me at the start, or where it ends for you.
Re: Polly's New Album: What We Know So Far
It isn't the 'Cat Stevens' we think it is since he now goes by the name of Yusuf Islam. A quick google search reveals Cat (in the UK Cat/Kat are short for Cat/Katherine) Stevens has worked with Polly before, Plan B magazine and Black Hearted Love stills.DrDark wrote:The booklet photographs for my digipack are by "Cat Stevens". I am a bit disheartened Maria has not been involved with this album at all (except thanked on the sleeve notes), hope it is a very temporary situation as I love the work she and Polly create together.
