Nick Cave: "Is This Desire" was an uncomfortable record to listen too"
Hi,

I'm hoping you can tell me where this quote is from? I'm an avid collector of all things Nick and Polly, and this is the only quote that I don't have form your list, and that I can't place.

Thanks. :shades:
It was in a magazine article around late 98 maybe early 99. The article used to be on a bad seeds site called 'king ink' in their article archive. Don't think the website exists anymore.

Thanks. I have a vague recollection of that site.

There's an interview of Polly on YouTube where she says pretty much the same thing about The Boatman's Call.

New quote from Patrick Wolf:

"Joni and PJ have also been great inspirations musically. “Is This Desire” really gave me confidence to use my passion for the dark English winters and Thomas Hardy wild West country storylines and communicate that in song. “…Desire” is a real masterpiece, a very rare British one too. Joni was a realisation that a musical communication could be just as strong with one instrument and a vocal… there didn’t have to be a symphony orchestra in order for the song and recording to be powerful and her lyrical magic is nothing but totally inspiring… “Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter” comes highly recommended to those that see her as the hippy blonde girl with an acoustic guitar, that lady has balls.”

Another from St.Vincent:

"I’m a big Steve Albini fan; his engineering work was really pivotal in the records that I loved-- and still love-- when I was in junior high and high school: the Breeders, Pixies, early PJ Harvey and Nirvana."
