"Front-runner, but not exactly an easy listen."

For once, and I hope the only time, I agree with the Daily Mail!

It is a very easy listen for me.
Hope she wins it or Anna Calvi (both are stunning). PJ's LES is "her" masterpiece. Said it before, saying it again.

Well it doesn't sound to be a very accessible album to me.
What's incredible about this album is that opinions are very divergent, it really doesn't let people indifferent about it.
I think it's a point of tastes and of what we use to listen to, since this album is again very different from what she used to do, but at first I wasn't very enthusiastic about this album. Now I've had time listening to it, and I love it, it really has its own universe.
The thing is to get into this universe to fully appreciate Let England Shake.

Hope she takes the prize today, if not her, then Calvi :eyeroll:

I honestly thought I don't care about any awards or prizes. But now I'm feeling clearly anxious for her to win. Think I'll have to listen to the radio broadcast on BBC6 after all.

And like many others here, I hope Calvi gets it if she doesn't win.

Same here. Let England Shake is just such a fantastic album and it deserves all the praises.

How soon do we find out who the winner is?

Polly's wearing white tonight:

I'm with soulfadelic re. awards. The Oscars? Taxi Driver up for best film, but what won that year? Rocky! L.A. Confidential up for best film, but what won that year? Titanic! Kate Winslet shuts her eyes just as she swings the axe to cut the handcuffs on Leonardo DiCaprio's wrists! Priceless scene, that one.

I might just punch the air if Polly wins though.

Less than an hour now. :???:

This is just great. Listening to the radio to get the big news. Very old school.

If he of all of them would win then the prize truly would have no meaning at all.

I hope it's not true! Then again I probably should care less about this.

I'd not heard of James Blake before but was not impressed with what I just heard played on the radio. Pales quite a lot to PJ.

Just came across this mini article about PJ's pick for the winner, which I found a bit surprising.

PJ Harvey backs females for Mercury

(UKPA) – 1 hour ago

Bookmakers' favourite PJ Harvey has backed her fellow female nominees for this year's Mercury Prize as walked the red carpet into the ceremony,

The singer, who won the prize in 2001, said: "I really like Adele's voice and I find her singing very moving, so I'd be happy if she won.

"Anna Calvi is an artist who will really develop, and go on from here. She's got a long way to go and she has an amazing voice."

Harvey wore a full-length white dress with a white leather bodice shaped like a strait-jacket.

She said the dress reflected her nominated album Let England Shake, saying: "I worked very closely with a designer who's a friend of mine...and she listened a lot to the music and talked a lot about what felt right for the band and myself to be wearing on stage and we created three or four different outfits, one of which I'm wearing tonight."

Other nominees on the red carpet included chart stars Katy B, who wore a figure-hugging maxi dress, Tinie Tempah, and former winners Elbow.

Chart-topper Adele skipped the red carpet to go straight into the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The Someone Like You singer has cancelled two concerts this week due to a chest infection.
