From her Facebook Page:

PJ Harvey is recording her ninth studio album as an exhibition within the Inland Revenue’s former staff gymnasium and rifle range at Somerset House, London,

From Jan 16th visitors will see and hear PJ Harvey, her guest musicians, recording engineers, and producers Flood and John Parish in a glazed architecturally-designed studio. For forty-five minutes at a time, groups of people will experience the crafting of a record, which could be anything from laying down a bass drum track, to discussions, improvisation, through to full performances of new songs.

One-way glass and sound proofing ensure that the musicians can concentrate on their work, but the space and the people who move through it will help to create both the process and presentation of this project.

The exhibition is commissioned and produced by ARTANGEL and Somerset House, and tickets are available here.

Woo! I got my tickets. Sounds like an amazing opportunity. To start with I misread and assumed it was in Somerset. Glad it's in London!

"I want Recording in Progress to operate as if we're an exhibition in a gallery," said Harvey. "I hope visitors will be able to experience the flow and energy of the recording process."

The exhibition opens on 16 January and runs until 14 February, with advance booking essential.

First instrument she ever learned how to play. She played on it in "Automatic Dlamini", on "Lonely Avenue" 2011 cover and in "Let England Shake", of course.

Here's a bigger version of Polly's photo (by Seamus Murphy), originally posted by Romario11:

"I was looking for a space to record in London and knew I didn't want it to be a conventional recording studio. I often go to see exhibitions and began to wonder if we could record in an art gallery – and if that were a possibility, then how we could be viewed by the public but at the same time have the space to record our music."

And I found another quote: "I hope people will see the attention and the labor and the care that goes into making a recording. I hope people will see the interactions between everyone involved." (http://www.axs.com/news/pj-harvey-is-letting-fans-watch-the-recording-of-her-next-album-35595)

Somerset House's director Jonathan Reekie: "The people who are being most brave are the musicians and Polly herself. It is an extraordinary thing to want to do. Polly will be just doing her work. She won't be paying attention to the audience, she won't be performing for them and it will be complete pot luck as to what visitors might get."
