Hello all! I would be extremely grateful if someone could post the full text of On Battleship Hill :) I'm absolutely in love with that song, it's simply exquisite. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

the scent of thyme carried on the wind
stings your face into remembering
that nature has won again

cruel nature has won again

that's all I had from now

Thanks very much!

I've got this other section of the song:

Jagged mountains jutting out/Cracked like teeth in a rotting mouth

see: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/feb/03/hail-hail-rock-n-roll

whilst the shimmering, Gallipoli-referencing “On Battleship Hill” uses a choirgirl voice to describe “jagged mountains... like teeth in a rotting mouth”.

what I hear:

The scent of thyme carried on the wind
strings my face into remembering
cruel nature has won again
cruel nature has won again

On Battleship Hill's
caved in trenches
a hateful feeling still lingers

even now 80 years later
cruel nature
cruel cruel nature

The land returns to how its always been
Thyme carried on the wind
Jagged mountains jutting out
cracked like teeth in a rotten mouth

On Battleship Hill
I hear the wind
sing
cruel nature has won again
cruel nature has won again
cruel nature has won again
cruel nature has won again

I think you're right except for it's "stings" not strings

I thought it would be 'time' seeing as she's talking about remembering, and the land returning to how it's always been and such. :???:

This is easy, too. I sing the first verse like the next verses, so it's more a standard folk song, using Am, G, F.

Hey, this is how I play it, think it's slightly dodgy in places though

On Battleship Hill
Intro: G C/G F Dm x 7
G C/G F Am

(Slow strumming)
Am E F
The scent of Thyme carried on the wind
G F Am
Stings my face into remembering
Am E F
Cruel nature has won again
G F Am
Cruel nature has won again.

Am
(Pick up strumming pace)

Am E F
On Battleship Hill’s caved in trenches
G F Am
A hateful feeling still lingers
Am E F
Even now eighty years later,
G F Am
Cruel nature, cruel, cruel nature.

Instrumental: G C/G F Dm x 3
G C/G F Am

Am E F
The land returns to how it’s always been
G F Am
Thyme carried on the wind
Am E F
Jagged mountains jutting out
G F Am
Cracked like teeth in a rotten mouth
Am E F
On Battleship Hill I hear the wind
G F Am
Sing ‘cruel nature has won again’.
G C/G F Am
Cruel nature has won again.
G C/G F Am
Cruel nature has won again (Stay on am for longer note on ‘again’)
G C/G F Am
Cruel nature has won again.

Repeat G C/G F Am to end.
