Hello everyone! Last night I was at the opening of Othello at the Theatre Royal in London, accompanied by Polly's music. Very striking production with back-projection and fascinating lighting effects. I haven't seen much Shakespeare, and it reminded me how many of these plays are simultaneously ridiculous (entirely unrealistic, lots of people standing around while someone talks) and electrifying. It was half an hour longer than billed, but I much enjoyed it.

I can't get my photo of Toby Jones as Iago and David Harewood as Othello to insert into the message, so here's a link: http://theweepingcross.co.uk/IMG_2896.JPG

I'm imagining most of the music was written for the Bristol Old Vic read-through of Othello back in 2012, but some (particularly a very dramatic bit accompanying the start of Act 2) might have related to this production. It's mostly very reticent piano or synth and sometimes a bit comes in at what seemed to me rather odd moments. Towards the end Desdemona sings a couple of verses of an old English folk song, 'Willow Willow', which you can absolutely imagine Polly singing: and as the stage goes dark there is possibly a single bar of the melody with a voice singing the title, which I imagine is PJH herself.
