let the reviews begin.

It is interesting that it's not being released by Island, but by vagrant records here in the US.

If you like the 2 new publicity shots of PJ by Seamus Murphy, check out the hi-res tiff file versions under the "Assets" tab on the vagrant web site for PJ.

Yeah - interesting reads!
Re: 'Written on the Forehead'
I get a subtle 3-time feel in the intro everytime - I think, due to Pollys careful accentuation (PEO-ple THROW-ing DI-NARS, AT the BEL-ly-DAN-cers etc.)
When the tambourine enters in the chorus the 4-time is setting the pace - and you go: yeah!
And then that is countered by the Niney-sample - and you go: once again? Yeah!

It reminds me off the effect of fading out of DRESS leaving nothing but the guitar riff in the end. You didn't notice the 'shape' of the guitar riff because the songs starts like it does: voice, guitar, bass, drums (... not counting the live versions setting off with drums etc. :???: )
The amazing thing is that the changes seem to slip into place as if they were already there... You didn't realize that you missed the other elements before...

This may be far out... :???: I just can't let it go

Ironically, I seem to be doing exactly what I just recently dissed the author of the 'Rid of me'-book for in another thread.

When reading on in the 'more features'-box after the review, Mick Harvey is cited saying: "There will be extensive touring commitments with my dear friend Polly (PJ) after the release of her new album in February 2011 so availabilities might be a bit tight early on."
Are we liking that?

Pitchfork named the track "Best New Music"

PJ Harvey has never been one to remain stylistically still, moving from gutted, grimy dreampop swirl to raging Albini scrape to elegantly cinematic post-blues torch songs in the space of her first three albums. But in a career that's spanned nearly 20 years, she's never sounded quite like she does on "Written on the Forehead". Here, she ditches her doomsaying moan-roar for an upper-register coo, letting her voice peacefully float over a gently lilting beat and a spaced-out organ drone. A sample of Niney the Observer's reggae classic "Blood and Fire" fills the background, with Harvey sometimes singing along, and the lyrics are all surreal end-of the-world scene-setting: "People throw belongings and lifetime's earnings amongst the scattered rubbish, suitcases on the sidewalk."

It's always hard to tell with Harvey, but the song seems to describe some sort of surreal Armageddon-- not exactly out of character for her. But the mood isn't fierce or vengeful. Instead, it's calm, wistful, nostalgic-- Harvey sounding like she's leafing through an old photo album. She sounds gentler, more tender than she ever has before. It stands to reason: The world's end would be the thing that brings out PJ Harvey's soft side.

The new track has made quite a splash. PJ was the most blogged artist today according to this:

I need to here more from my favourite lady...why can't it be February already? Better still, why doesn't she just change the release date to mid Dec. That would be a fair compromise now wouldn't it? ;)

Is this available for preorder anywhere in the US? I know people can do amazon in the UK, but sadly I do not live there.

I've ordered stuff from amazon.co.uk and I live in the US.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't show up as a pre-order on amazon.com pretty soon.

I'll probably wait until the album comes out unless there's some pre order bonus. By the way, I think PJ could do a really great version of Perfect Day Elise on auto-harp, who else thinks so? She really needs to perform Is This Desire songs a lot more, it's such a great album that she sadly doesn't perform much! I hope this new album is amazing :D
