And provide the sources and references! :-)

One more: Boy George was on British morning tv a few years ago and when discussing the current music scene at the time he couldn't think of much good music being made, but he did mention Polly as someone he liked a lot.

Now for fun, some quotes.

John Hiatt :"I don't know, it would seem to be Anglican, but a pretty swinging Anglican, which brings me to PJ Harvey, I like her, she's the Anglican blues that's what I call her music.

Doug Walker (on what musicians he would like to work with)- " Off the top of my head a duet with either PJ Harvey or the singer from Cat Power would be nice."

Scott Walker(walker brothers)- " I like PJ Harvey, Portishead, Nine Inch Nails"

Wayne Hussey(The Mission)- " I was never really into PJ Harvey, then I got to bring you my love and loved it. Now I'm a huge fan of PJ. Have all her stuff"

Wayne Hussey(The Mission)- "Lists PJ Harvey's "To Bring You My Love" number eight on the ten albums that changed his life."

Josh Todd(Buckcherry): "I'm still listing to the latest PJ Harvey record alot" (when referring to stories)"

Josh Todd(Buckcherry): "I like PJ Harvey, I'm listening to that Maroon5 record a lot right now. I like all kinds of stuff. Prince, Stevie Wonder, 50 Cent, NWA and Public Enemy.(this guy has mostly terrible taste!)

Josh Todd(Buckcherry): " If I could be on the ultimate bill it would be: Prince, PJ Harvey, Local H, Blink 182, and us."

Trent Reznor: " Trent plays Mother Tongue and PJ Harvey" (downward spiral era interview circa 94) He was also spotted at one of the shows during the White Chalk era.

Jenny Wilson(The Knife): " In 95 I found a record of PJ Harvey, and she turned me upside down! I can't believe I hadn't discovered her sooner"

Jenny Wilson(the knife): " I started when I was about 18, when I heard PJ Harvey’s ‘Rid of Me’. I was already buying a lot of records and listening to many interesting things, but it wasn’t until I listened to her that I realised that I wanted to do what she does."

Brett Anderson: " I was quite disappointed by this actually. I loved 'Dress' and I love some stuff on the LP. But I still think she's brilliant. I think she's been really influential, though not in the sense of influencing other bands. It might be a cliché but I actually know a lot of girls who have been inspired to pick up the guitar and write songs because of Polly Harvey's example."

Jason Pierce (Spiritualized/ Spaceman 3): "Last night I was listening to PJ Harvey, that album of demos. That's blistering as well, and it's just a bunch of f-mg demos so, er... I don't really know what we're doing... Um, what's the thread of what we're talking about?"

Peter Koppes(The Church): " PJ Harvey's last two albums are good" (circa 2001)

Susan Hyatt(Pillbox): "I have been all around Europe. It's great that you can take in so many different cultures in a matter of hours...The UK bands I fancy are the VegasTones - they are from Australia but are based in London. Radiohead - of course. Supergrass - who are totally underrated. And the goddess - P.J. Harvey"

Tim Finn(Crowded House, Split Enz): "Well, quite a big influence on me for the last couple of years has been the PJ Harvey record ["Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea"]. I really loved the minimalism of that. To me, there's so much sound around--because of extensive sampling and ProTools--you can do anything. I think through all those choices, sound itself to me has become cheapened and devalued in a way. What would have been an exotic sound, like a temple bell or something, is now like another little pop sound that can take you from the verse to the chorus. It's so easy to use any sound in the universe right now, that my reaction to that--and this is just me, I'm not saying it's right or wrong--is to go very spare, with an almost classicist approach to the rock n' roll instruments."

Duncan Sheik: "Duncan adore's PJ Harvey's new record "stories from the ciry, stories from the sea"

Ben Harper: "Ben's band "Fistful of Mercy" hass been performing PJ's "To Bring You My Love" of recent times"

Sophie Ellis Bextor: "All my favourite singers PJ Harvey, Bjork and Debbie Harry are unconvetional looking and slightly bonkers"

Sophie Ellis Bextor: "An artist I really admire is PJ Harvey"

Sophie Ellis Bextor: "citing Prince, Bowie, Goldfrapp, Björk, PJ Harvey and, ahem, Ricky Martin, as enduring passions"

Black Heart Procession :"We all have pretty diverse tastes. PJ Harvey is a frequent player.."

Carla Bozulich(Geraldine Fibbers): "I love that you called my voice inhabited. That is the best word i ever heard to describe my voice. I do feel attracted to Nick Cave and PJ Harvey. I love to hear them and feel their strength spilling out. I remember being on tour in Britain and seeing the huge posters of her wet flying head — Rid Of Me — and thinking that looks like it might be a fucking interesting musician. and, wow-o, that's a really professional publicity job! I'm in awe of PJ Harvey's use of stiletto heals. I can't walk in pumps."

Carla Bozulich(Geraldine Fibbers): "Some people think that Patti Smith is your biggest influence. And you did say she was "the most defiant woman" you had ever seen... Some other critics compared you to Diamanda Galas and PJ Harvey... Are you happy about all those comparisons?" "I am proud to be mentioned in the same sentence as those women. They are all beautiful and strong. There are so many more but really there is never enough. Speak out!"

Toni Halliday(Curve)" Yeah, Patti Smith has always been a big heroine to me, and I love PJ Harvey as well. She's obviously really brilliant, and I admire her for her songwriting abilities. Also, that way that she kind of stands back from the hardened feminist line, which is the same as me. I think it's something to do within yourself, y'know. You make your own choices, you make your own decisions for you, and they don't necessarily have to affect anybody else. I think that is the correct way to do it, to make your own little milestones as you go along. And they're not really involved with other people"

Toni Halliday(Curve): " F---, that's the best single of the year. And next year, when she starts recording with Steve Albini she is golng to piss on everybody" (on Sheela-Na-Gig)

Toni Halliday(Curve): "l'm sure if l was 18 I'd be the same. If I saw Polly Harvey doing what she does with such strength, I think I'd find it pretty inspirational."

Shara Worden(My Brightest Diamond):''It was like Sade and Seal. I listened to Tori Amos, Portishead, PJ Harvey, and Jeff Buckley too. Those were the records I would listen to, but didn't like. I would keep going back to them, because there's was something about it that was so intriguing to me. Eventually I really fell in love with those artists."

Shara Worden(My Brightest Diamond): " I bought PJ Harvey's new dvd for inspiration"

Blood Red Shoes: " they also regularly highlight English artists Blur and PJ Harvey as music heroes"

Blood Red Shoes: "We would like PJ Harvey to front our band"

Laura-Mary Carter(Blood Red Shoes): "No my guitar heroes are people like Kat Bjelland from Babes in Toyland, PJ Harvey, Josh Homme, Nick Zinner from YYY’s, John Reis (speedo) from Hot Snakes…so a mixture of male and female. I don’t really look up to female guitar players more than male, but female guitarists definitely made more of an impression on me when I was younger. I think electric guitar is definitely seen as a more male instrument, there are a lot more female acoustic guitarists than electric guitarists."

Laura-Mary Carter(Blood Red Shoes): "Yes and no. There are certain musicians that people take really seriously and look up to, like PJ Harvey, but she’s been established for so long that she’s overcome the “gimmick” thing. But yeah some bozos definitely don’t take women in bands seriously."

Laura Mary Carter(Blood Red Shoes)" With PJ Harvey it was more when I got a bit older. I think I saw her once at Reading Festival – I was just out of school, I think. I listen to her a lot – I’ve discovered some of her earlier albums that I didn’t have before. “Rid of Me” was the first album [of her’s] that I ever bought, and I’ve just recently bought some of the other ones that I didn’t have before. I think she’s a real musical genius. On the new album as well – she re-creates herself quite a lot."

Laura Mary Carter(Blood Red Shoes): "we're influenced by a lot of music and a lot of things that happen to us in life. bands that i can trace influence from in our songs are huggy bear, blur, nirvana, babes in toyland, pj harvey, q and not u. "

Steve Ansell(Blood Red Shoes): "PJ Harvey would be at the top of the list. We actually talked about it with this album, wondering if there was any well in hell she’d do it, or if we even had a song that would be appropriate for her voice! I think that may be some serious pie in the sky, eh?"

Laura Mary Carter(Blood Red Shoes): "In February 2010, Courtney Love spoke to students at Oxford Union – but is there a musician who you think would be an ideal candidate for this?" "PJ Harvey, although I don’t think she’d ever do it.”

Steve Ansell(Blood Red Shoes): “She would be a really interesting one though.”

Laura Mary Carter(Blood Red Shoes): "She’s SO interesting! I think she’s brilliant (big smile)!”

Boy George: "I can't think of many current musicians that are good..I like PJ Harvey a lot" (I never heard the interview. I'm assuming the quote went something like this though?)

Maynard James Keenan: "Maynard has cited his musical influences, among others, include: Aerosmith, AC/DC, Björk, Black Sabbath, the Jackson 5, Joni Mitchell, PJ Harvey, and Roberta Flack,"

Maynard James Keenan: "That's the hugest thing missing from this Lollapalooza: feminine energy, and it's disappointing. But it's not for lack of trying. I had my wish list: Meshell Ndegeocello, Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Luscious Jackson."

Maynard James Keenan(when asked who his favourite band was):" Can I say PJ Harvey. Is she considered a band."

Maynard James Keenan: "Maynard has also more recently been listening to a lot of Massive Attack, his old Cocteau Twins records, PJ Harvey, and the new Radiohead album (Kid A)."

Maynard James Keenan: "The new PJ Harvey record is amazing, and the
Radiohead record is amazing."

Maynard James Keenan: "I think these bands pick up
the surface noise, and that's their influence. It would be a
flattering thing if I heard that PJ Harvey was influenced by
something we did, or Massive Attack, I would go great,
because I feel the deeper movements to this music. When I
hear these loud, goofy posturing idiots jumping up and down,
more concerned about their hairdos than their music, it's just
we don't do that, what am I missing? There's nothing to the
music that moves me, or compels me to want to sit down and
listen to it, which is unfortunate. Maybe I'm just a cynical old
bastard."

Troy Van Leeuwan( A Perfect Circle)"The P.J. Harvey record is just phenomenal. She's got Mick Harvey from Nick Cave's band. And one more person, Joseph Arthur. His record is very good too." (circa 2001)

Gina Birch(The Raincoats): "We were quite interested, when we first started, to try working with Flood, because we really liked that PJ Harvey record, To Bring You My Love. We really liked that album, which is very kind of demoesque in a way. And I really like that quality. We ended up not working with Flood because he was too busy, and we even asked Polly [PJ Harvey] to do some work with us on the production side.

Gina Birch(The Raincoats): "Geffen gave us quite a lot of money and then said we had to spend it on an expensive studio and an expensive producer. We wanted Polly Harvey to produce it, but that didn't work out."

Ana Da Silva(The Raincoats): "which bands are you listening to nowadays? Are there any unknown bands that you like and recommend us the check out?" " I also like Colleen, Phew (a Japanese woman who we are playing with when we go to Japan),Gudrun Gut,Chicks On Speed,Cornershop,P.J. Harvey,No Bra,sometimes just particular songs by someone."

Tegan & Sara: "One of the first reviews we got for this record was actually from Idaho somewhere and said we were like a Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, something else and backed it up. I was like, “Yeah you know, we do have some of those elements in our music. That’s interesting.” That’s cool that they saw that instead of just seeing what they heard from the last record."

Well, i'm getting tired of this now. There is a heap more. I'll continue tomorrow.

Thank you Romario! This sounds silly but that John Lydon bit's made my day. I adore him. But I always got the impression he wouldn't like her. Nothing was ever suggested though haha.
