It's got to be - from her New York sojourn. That seems to have been when Teledubgnosis were getting going.

On the other hand, why does she sings about being 35 then? She has a song "30" from this period.

I think it might be a peculiar way of pronouncing "me".

the tweet says 20 years, so it could be 1997 ca. a relatively less fertile period, maybe she was experimenting...
All this is Mine
Zaz turned blue
When will I see you again

it reminds me of those songs, also Perfect day Elise in Life on Mars,
No girl so sweet and A girl like me

Because she's not speaking as herself, I suppose.

I did wonder. I rejected that because of the apparent rhyme with 'millennium', and her ghost vocal seems more like 'men' than 'me', but 'me' makes more sense, and again, now you mention it, I can't hear that final 'n' anymore!

Or 'we're', in fact.

I think that since releaser on SoundCloud hadn't pointed out the exact date of recording, that means he doesn't knows it for sure himself, hence his "over twenty years" might be considered as a supposition (i.e. his opinion, worthy relatively the same as any of ours).

Now I'm starting to think it might be "under my brand new skin".

You've asked the guy who accidentally found it and posted on Twitter, but really we should ask the guy behind this SoundCloud account: https://soundcloud.com/tikited23.
And I already did that on Facebook. [waiting for the answer.]

Hmm, I'm not convinced either that or my (slightly nonsensical) 'friend's' is right. I might come back to it after a couple of days and see whether it sounds different.

As to when these tracks were recorded, yes, I assumed originally that Mr Olshansky knew something about it, before realising that he's just stumbled across the Soundcloud release in the way any of us could have done, so his reference to 'twenty years' is just a guess. Everything that we can pin down - when Teledubgnosis got going, the BMI song list, the style - points to 1998-2000, it seems to me. Assuming the tracks were all recorded together, the re-use of the lyrics of 'Eyes' for 'A Girl like Me' in 2003 gives a terminus ante quem: they can't be later than that.

Finally, if Polly did make an explicit statement about her 'relationship status' in that line about being single at 35 I will give up any pretence at understanding anything about her, and eat some sort of headgear!

"Over 20 years" is the comment from SoundCloud uploader, not the Twitter guy.

So it is! Which is worth something as he was the drummer, it seems, but I still can't believe the music is earlier than 1997. Artistic licence, perhaps.

I now reckon the 'flashback' line is 'I flash back to ancient Greece' - see what you think, Kuk. 'Our ancient peace' is probably a better lyric, but there you go. And if you're right about 'men' actually being 'me' (and I think you are), the final phrase could be 'in me' rather than 'Amen'.

Oops, I hadn't realised he was this band's drummer. But I also asked him about exact date, and why it's in mono, so maybe he'll answer.

Honestly, I don't know.

The tracks seem to have been removed now. Not a surprise, I suppose.
