That's true.

I have fantasies of playing Diamanda Galas or Captain Beefheart at people who claim they like dark and heavy music, though I'm not yet vile enough to actually do it and shatter their ideas about themselves so easily!

How you got from Siouxsie to that woman is indeed a mystery to me. But you needn't think twice before inflicting Siouxsie on PJ, as she does love her!

BTW, remember when in 2011 PJ said she liked hearing Lady Gaga on the radio? Musical snobbery is so 90s.

Thank you!!! Totally agree with that!

She's mostly included bands in her playlists that she has spoken of before, so there are no real surprises. In that spirit I'm looking forward to her next playlist of ABBA, Duran Duran and Take That.

I only meant to say (hopefully in a slightly humorous way) that I personally don't like Beyonce's music and have no interest in hearing it on a playlist, on the radio or anywhere ever, and if that makes me a musical snob then a glad musical snob I am! :)

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound harsh or anything, and my comment wasn't directed at you in particular. I was just pointing out that PJ has her guilty pleasures, too, as we all do, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. ;) There's enough space in the world for all kinds of music - as Bjork once put it, "a little bit of Messiaen on Monday morning, a little bit of Rihanna on Friday night".

That's OK, I'm sorry for taking it so personally then! By the way, my guilty pleasure is ABBA ;)

Don't worry, neither do I, there is one track on Lemonade which quite moved me and she didn't write it. But I did skip through the album, because it was critically so well-received, and I thought, I don't like this, but I can see why people do. It's not just vapid and contentless, which is what I expected.

And she spent a while in 2004 praising (and wearing) the Spice Girls; but (and whisper it quietly) I suspect she might not be entirely serious all the time. A bit like Diamanda saying how great Britney Spears is. I'd rather like something really trashy to pop up on the playlists - although that Jefferson Airplane track strikes me as fairly camp already!

Now that's interestingly eclectic, especially after what I said about the previous couple of playlists.

Given that every time I make a prediction or a statement, the opposite seems to happen, does anyone have any requests? Polly turning up at your birthday party, that kind of thing?

Surprised she seems to like The Doors so much. Morrison is often knocked as a dreadful poet. At least among those who study poetry. Then again, this is rock music and so lyrics are intertwined with the music. Lyrics that wouldn't necessarily stand on their own can still work within a musical setting.

I am not. Her voice was super low and spooky on TBYML in 1995. Jim Morrison is the first dark baritone in rock music, far far before Nick Cave touched a microphone. Cave must have been influenced by Morrison as well, that's not surprising that she rates the Doors too.
