Again, I like these songs a lot more than half of Hope Six. If the album featured these two tracks + Guilty and lost some of the more grating ones (to me these are Chain of Keys and The Ministry of Defence) I'd enjoy it much more

^ Funny you say that, because both "Chain of Keys" and "The Ministry of Defence" are highlights of the record to me. But I would gladly exchange "Near the Memorials..." or even "Orange Monkey" for something as great as "Guilty". Loving these new outtakes as well. But Polly so often keeps great songs off the proper records - I guess this is what makes being a fan and delving deeper into her catalogue so rewarding.

Amnesiac, could you grab "A Dog Called Money" from this site - http://www.melon.com/album/detail.htm?albumId=10057060? Sample there has a much better quality.

I love how she sings it w-waiting, stuttering like child, and the background vocals are replicating it as well.

Has anyone tried to write down "A Dog Called Money" lyrics? I have trouble understanding some of the words in the verses.

Spoiler! :
Image

The kids are rolling dice for change
sitting on the backyard steps, calling Money's name

Old guy walking to the store
chewing on a ... sticks, ... ... ...

He says "Everything is staged, that's how it is
People just paid and bought ... ... ...
What you're gonna do to change it?
Everything is staged - that's what's going on."

The kids rolling dice again (?), sun [sirens?] is beaming down (?)
... the old guy's name (?)
He smiles, ... ... ... ... ,
the kids ... ... "Money, Money"

He says "Everything is staged, that's how it is
People just paid and bought ... ... ...
What you're gonna do to change it?
It's all about money - that's what's going on."

My attempt:

The kids are rolling dice for change,
sitting on the backyard steps,
calling Money's name.

Old guy walking to the store,
chewing on a cocktail stick stops to tell us
what is what.

He says, Everything is staged,
that's how it is.
People are just paid and bought,
and I'm tired of it.

What are you gonna do
to change it?
Everything is staged,
that's what's going on.

The kids rolling dice again.
Sun is beaming down.
I ask the old guy's name.

He smiles, the people ?????
the kids ?????
Money! Money!

He says, Everything is staged,
that's how it is.
People are just paid and bought,
and I'm tired of it.

What are you gonna do
to change it?
It's all about money,
that's what's going on.

Money! Money!

He smiles, the people will run far away
the kids call out for him
Money, money

Thank you, Amnesiac!

I'll Be Waiting

They swept across the land
They did not leave a thing
They did not leave a person
A stone, or a tree
They did not leave anything
They did not leave anything
All that's left is sand
All that's left is sand

I remember father
I remember him
Every minute I remember
Every moment
Now I hate everyone
Now I hate everyone
Before I used to love
Before I used to love

One day thorns shall grow
One day thorns shall grow
From their graves
When they return, thorns will grow
Over their graves
I will be waiting

And when they return, I will be waiting
I will not leave a person, standing
I will not leave anything
I will not leave anything
All I'll leave is sand
All I'll leave is sand

And then thorns shall grow
And then thorns shall grow
From their graves
When they return, thorns shall grow
Over their graves
I will be waiting,

When they return, thorns shall grow
Over their graves
I will be waiting

:tear:
It's so sad how this one seems to be written from the perspective of a child affected by war. Their hearts filled with pain and anger in the aftermath, never to be the same again.

Thanks for the songs and lyrics! I'll Be Waiting is almost unbearably beautiful...

And I think the sun is beating down in A Dog Called Money.

I don't understand: I thought you somehow "fished out" full tracks from mediaplayer, but now you say "pay" - so, you bought these m4a files? If so, question for everyone - can't you hear how low the quality is? It deforms the sound, actual bitrate must be around 96 kbps or below. You might say there's something wrong with my ears, but can't you spot the difference between crystal clear 192 kbps mp3 which has been posted first, and this latter upscale m4a?

I guess I heard that m4a is a format for iPhones or something, but I'm "old school", and I think that if it's bad at both computer headphones and speakers - when it's just a bad quality in general.

Yes, the quality of the m4a files is definitely much lower than the first I'll Be Waiting mp3.

No, you and your ears are right, this is just a horribly compressed sound file - the kind that are usually used for 30-sec previews in online shops (and even still, most online shops nowadays use better quality files for previews!). It absolutely shouldn't be sold. It says the file is 315kbps AAC but it's obviously an upscale conversion (from a very low-bitrate source file).

And yes, M4A can be an extension for various types for files, includings the ones for Apple devices.
But iTunes sells songs at 256kbps AAC, and that's quite a decent quality, usually impossible to distinguish from a 320kbps MP3 file.
