Community of Hope's response to PJ Harvey.

I feel like these people definitley miss the point.

Ms. Garett is really loving the attention with her press contact and donation link.

Polly is using words of some Washingtonian called Paul Schwartzman, who apparently was holding an excursion throughout the city for her. These easily-offended American altruists should've read "The Hollow of the Hand" first (particularly, "Acknowledgements" section).

I wrote a comment on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/communityofhopedc.

Having read some stupid comments on Twitter - wow, Americans just LOVE to be offended (without even bothering to know the context). My advice to all true fans: don't waste your time trying to enlighten them - some people can't be helped (it's like those morons who genuinely believes what Polly "supports" fox hunting - just clowns).

"New PJ Harvey album just landed in my inbox. I'll be back in a few hours."

"Too much to digest in one sitting, but there's a *lot* of saxophone on this record."

clearly is like a protest song, to put a light spot on it, I don't see it offensive, but I can understand the feeling of people who serves the city for 35 years long

I still guess that all songs will be pulled out before the record itself, as was for LES

Still holding out for Bitter Little Bird, haha.

she'll never do or sang that song again, she said during 2008 gig in Roma

p.s.: I like saxophone :)

“PJ Harvey is to music what Piers Morgan is to cable news.”

What does that even mean?

It means he's a dumbass. He said he didn't even understand the song or he's purposely being dense. Him and Leah Garrett both acknowledged the facts in it but noted that there was more to DC (um duh!). Like when you mention to some that misogyny is a real problem and their only reaction is "NOT ALL MEN". True deflection from the bigger picture. Piers Morgan is awful though, you would have to be a damn fool to compare him to the 50ft queenie.

An interesting comment at:

Granted it is PJs song. However, if you look at her poetry book The Hollow of the Hand, the poem titled Sight-Seeing, South of the River is the blueprint of said song The Community of Hope.

In the original poem, Polly and Seamus Murphy (who provided the powerful images of book) are given a first-hand tour from a native who is literally describing what they are seeing. The narration is literally his 'personal' point of view. And to take it farther.. The credits at end of book name Paul Schwartzman for the same poem the song is speaking about.

Which means that Mr Schwartzman was most likely the gentleman reflecting his personal viewpoint as he is giving the tour of Washington DC from this certain perspective.

Which shows how truly gifted a talent and artist PJ Harvey truly is that she would act as a narrator reflecting the hearts and minds of people within their habitats.

In my opinion these politicians are reacting like all politicians are trained to do, they ignore any criticism and promote or "big up" something that has been a notable success for them (don't look at that, look at this).

Of course if they can find a scapegoat that's even better, more distraction..

Finally, top it off with a belittling or derogatory remark and it's ready for the sheep to eat :yum:

It says something of Harvey’s stature as an artist that Washington’s locals have taken offence. The city, with its obvious disparities between the powerful and powerless, has long been the subject of criticism in popular music. Gil Scott Heron, in Washington, DC, described this “ball of contradictions” as “a mass of irony for all the world to see”. Leadbelly, in Bourgeois Blues, implored black people “don’t try to find you no home in Washington, DC”.

"They're gonna put a Walmart here" is so hysterical and sad at the same time.
