I'm pretty sure some of you will know who Mark Cousins. He used to give a short introduction to cult films on BBC2, late on Sunday nights; sometimes directs films. He also made and narrated 'A Story of Film: An Odyssey' for Channel 4 recently (now on dvd, by the way). He is co-founder with Tilda Swinton, no less, of a foundation which introduces children to world cinema.

I happened to find this twitter comment by him on Friday. Very intriguing...

'we have just added 3rd, brilliant, PJ Harvey track to my new film. her music gives the film storm clouds, power'

Louis Theroux to curate cinema listings at ATP's I'll Be Your Mirror

TV journalist Louis Theroux has been named as co-curator of the cinema stage at ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror, which takes place in London later this month, directing the festival’s Friday film programme while Mogwai and the Prince Charles Cinema team will direct Saturday and Sunday proceedings respectively.

Amongst other selections, Theroux will present a preview of director Mark Cousins’ ‘What Is This Film Called Love?’, which features new music by PJ Harvey and Soundescape.

As well as looking after one day of movies, Mogwai are curating the whole music programme for the event (with the ATP team), and on that side have chosen, amongst many others, the following to perform: Slayer, Sleep, Melvins, Mogwai, Dirty Three, Codeine, Mudhoney and The Afghan Whigs.

It takes place from 25-27 May at Alexandra Palace. And you can download a free two-hour mixtape including tracks by all of the above, and more besides, here.

Two new songs! :-)

A documentary film about “the nature of happiness” will feature two new tracks by veteran singer-songwriter PJ Harvey, according the singer’s official Facebook page.

Titled What Is This Film Called Love?, the film is described as as:

“…a passionate 77 minute poetic documentary about the nature of happiness. Filmed in Mexico over three days, it begins as a film about the soviet director Sergei Eisenstein, and then, using his ideas, opens up to look at memory, landscape and the pleasures of walking. The film draws from a range of filmmakers and writers – principally Chris Marker, but also Virginia Woolf, Frank O’Hara and others – but aims to touch on themes that are relevant to a wide range of people – where joy comes from, the emotions involved with travel and homecoming, and the nature of solitude.”

As well as “To Bring You My Love” being featured, new songs “Horse” and “Bobby Don’t Steal” will also get their first airing.

A preview of the documentary will take place at this year’s ATP festival in London on Sunday 27th May, which will be curated by Mogwai (Music & Cinema) and Louis Theroux (Cinema).

This is very exciting. I don't know why, but a song called "Horse" is very intriguing to me. I hope we will be able the new songs soon.
