last weekend I came across Lu Cong's art on a magazine.
He kinda paints people with a docile, lost, terror and starring look in their eyes

Lately I've been really interested about Edward Hopper's paints as well.

Hopper is excellent! I actually went to an exhibition of his work today at a small university museum nearby. It was all land and seascapes he did while he spent his summers here. I haven't seen much of his work in person before and was struck by how clean and almost photographic some of the paintings looked from the opposite side of the room and how textured they were up close, especially some of his oils.

I tend to be drawn to artists like Degas, Klee, and Mondrian. There are not a lot of outlets nearby to find contemporary artists so I will be interested to see what else might appear in this thread!

This is an interesting thread, was wondering if there was something like this here. I am attracted to all sort of art and art photos. Maybe I will post stuff here from time to time and check out what others are posting.

Tacita Dean

I've been reading a lot about her exhibition at Tate Modern and saw a video of the film today. Though it was a pretty bad Youtube video, I found myself getting really excited by it. I'd love to see it in person. Definitely want to see more of her work now!

A better but slightly shorter video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGv71UqPPVc

Gerhard Richter

A local museum has an exhibition of ten contemporary artists on now. I heard they had a Basquiat included so I went to see it this weekend but was far more excited when I saw they had a Richter painting. I've seen a lot of pictures of his work but never anything in person. It was one of his abstracts and it absolutely floored me, there's so much movement and you can make out so many shapes and figures all over the place. I'm not sure how to insert pictures here, but there are lots of images of his work on his website: http://www.gerhard-richter.com/art/

To a Crow
- By Robert Burns Wilson

BOLD, amiable, ebon outlaw, grave and wise!
For many a good green year hast thou withstood—
By dangerous, planted field and haunted wood—
All the devices of thine enemies,
Gleaning thy grudgëd bread with watchful eyes
And self-relying soul. Come ill or good,
Blithe days thou see’st, thou feathered Robin Hood!
Thou mak’st a jest of farm-land boundaries.
Take all thou may’st, and never count it crime
To rob the greatest robber of the earth,
Weak-visioned, dull, self-lauding man, whose worth
Is in his own esteem. Bide thou thy time;
Thou know’st far more of Nature’s lore than he,
And her wide lap shall still provide for thee.

Holy guacamole! This thread needs a bump. I want to see more of your favourite pieces!

RInko Kawauchi will probably always reside as my favourite photographer. I love everything about her work. It literally refreshes me to look at it.
