Re: "The Wheel" - Lead Single (apparently)

A revolving wheel of metal chairs
Hung on chains, squealing
Four little children flying out
A blind man sings in Arabic
Hey little children don't disappear
(I heard it was 28,000)
Lost upon a revolving wheel
(I heard it was 28,000)
Now you see them, now you don't
Children vanish behind a vehicle
Now ...

Re: The Colour of the Earth chords

Haven't been here for awhile, but thanks! I was having some trouble knowing where to change up some of those minor chords. One thing I'm doing different is not fingering the high E string on the G chord at the beginning, leaving it at...G6? Sounds better to me.

Re: Is PJ Harvey's Let England Shake really all that good?

I know the focus has been all on the writing/lyrics for LES, but it wouldn't be captivating if not for how splendid the melodies are, or how each tune seems to complement the next. The lyrics are wonderful, but what makes the album for me is the sheer inventiveness of the sound itself.

The best album no one is listening to, even among her rivals.

No big deal, really. Just seemed reasonable to have at least the title of the album in the topic line...or maybe not.

Well, Mark Ruffalo's character WAS a Joni Mitchell fan. Can he be all that bad? I don't understand the negative response by lesbians. Don't worry, we straight males understand you don't all watch gay male porn, based on a single movie.

Note to moderators...maybe it's time to change the title of this thread? Something like "Let England Shake: General Discussion", maybe?

Re: Polly's New Album: What We Know So Far

I just discovered that Michelle Henning (credited in Let England Shake booklet as the author of the cover artwork) is John Parish's wife! Did you know that?

The artwork is featured also on her site: http://www.michellehenning.co.uk/home.html

I'd thought Polly herself had done ...

Re: Polly's New Album: What We Know So Far

Considering the dark content of the lyrics, it seems natural to feel depressed after listening to this album, but I'm not. I always feel invigorated, like I've just experienced a beautiful work of art.

My question is: When are we going to see the rest of the LES videos?

It's definitely one of the great moments on the album...I love the break from the previous verses, and the chord changes that lead into the "our young men ...

Re: Hanging in the Wire

Many soldiers were killed as they attempted to climb over barbed wire entanglements.
Because these were covered by enemy machine guns, night and day, the bodies often had to be left "hangin' on the wire", sometimes for months.

Can't Metacritic throw in another couple of great reviews of LES to push it into #1, AHEAD of George Michael, "Faith: Special Edition"?

Re: lyrics to Polly's latest new songs

As far as Big Guns lyrics, are you sure it's:

"I wish this night
would never end"

I'm hearing something else, something like, "Roll Back this night" or something else.
